A Safe Arrival

I have officially arrived in Perú! After a long and silently eventful 7 hour flight (crying babies, funny people, and a bug in my dinner), I arrived at about 11pm Peruvian time. After I passed through customs, I found my EP Buddy, Susy, two of her AIESEC friends, and her father waiting for me! The are all very warm and welcoming. They greeted me with very pretty signs and a purse with a llama on it (yes) filled with some Peruvian specialties (Inca cola, etc.). Her father took us back to her house, which is very beautiful. Though it was late when we drove through Lima, I still got to see the city all lit up at night. It's different from a typical American city. The buildings are not as tall, and they are vibrantly colored. I have been warned that the drivers in Lima are the craziest in the world (public transportation and all), and  driving through loads of traffic at midnight definitely gives them to potential to live up to that name.
I definitely underestimated the amount of Spanish I remembered as it is quite difficult to communicate. I am able to understand most of the time, but not speak. "Mas despacio, por favor" y "Como se dice ___?" will probably be my most used phrases this winter. Also, my Google account has defaulted to the Peruvian version, putting my gmail, blog, and everything else Google  into Spanish. I guess I better catch on fast..
